Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection – ICSI Method of Treating Infertility

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a fertilization method of IVF involves direct injection of Sperm into Egg. The early stages of ICSI are as same as IVF procedure, and ICSI is performed to increase the chances of fertilization.
Step - 1
Ovarian Stimulation- Fertility drugs are given to stimulate egg production.
Step - 2
Eggs Retrieval - Follicular aspiration is performed to collect eggs from the ovaries.
Step - 3
Sperm Collection Sperm sample is collected and prepared to combine with the eggs.
Step - 4
ICSI & Fertilization - ICSI is performed, a thin hollow needle is used to inject the sperm into the cytoplasm of an egg (one sperm for each egg). Fertilization takes place within few hours.
Step - 5
Embryo Transfer - The fertilized eggs develop into embryos which are then transferred
directly into the uterus.
ICSI is originally developed to treat male infertility where the fertilization rate is low.
This technique maximizes the fertilization and increase the chances of pregnancy.
